The Song of the Righteous is a Prayer unto me.

Why does this matter?

If you ever see us driving along, you'll notice something. Usually, the car is loud and full of music. The rule is whoever is in the front seat gets to choose the tunes. I love this tradition with every piece of my soul. It has the power to bond us together through memory and the power of song. Every year has a playlist, full of moments that we've shared together. When we've got contention in the car, guess what? We've got a playlist for that too, titled, "When we fight". But lately, I've noticed a trend. Our Jesus Jams playlist is getting more airtime and not just on Sunday.

Could it be that they feel the need for more Jesus just as much as I do?

A few weeks ago, I was asked by a sister how we have such loud singing kids. I give all the credit to us singing loudly in the car for YEARS. It's become part of our family culture. And it starts with you. That's what I told my sister when she asked how they became so loud. It's because I sing loudly too. I belt it at the top of my lungs like most people only reserve for the shower. It may seem silly, but I think seeing me cut loose and sing with reckless abandon gives them permission to do the same. They know it's a safe space to be loud and be themselves. Is it perfect? Nope. Do we sound pretty good? Sometimes. But mostly we just keep it a space of joy, loud and tangible joy. As they become comfortable in their own skins in a safe space, they learn to do so in other spaces as well. It has an amazing trickle down effect.

Those moments of courage and baring your soul through music is a pattern for how you live.

Be loud. Let your people see you loud. Our loudness can fill the world with light.

Until next time...

Keep striving and we'll see y'all soon.
